Rick Steber is one of the most well-loved local authors in Central Oregon. His engaging Western tales have earned him national acclaim and numerous awards, including Best Regional Fiction and the Western Heritage Award. When Steber tells a story, his characters come alive.
His latest book, Three Little Birds, is an emotional read about the bond a man with a damaged heart forms with a wild bird. While on a waiting list to receive a heart transplant, George Hooker hatches a goose egg; the gosling imprints on him, and he spends his days caring for it. However, Hooker's condition is declining, and he doesn't know if he'll live to see the gosling migrate away when it matures. This is more than a story about man and bird; it's a story of illness and healing, and the storm of emotions experienced on both sides of the organ donor list.
